UK Time Solutions helps London School of Economics keep time

UK Time Solutions has just completed a contract to install a streamlined Time & Attendance system linking three sites for the London School of Economics. Software is loaded at one site with management data available to authorised employees at any of the sites. The new system provides accurate data for human resource personnel and will enhance health and safety since it provides accurate numbers of employees located at all three sites. The system can handle unlimited numbers of people and can be linked to access control , meaning in time it could control all doors and access points throughout the school. The system is future-proof since it can easily link to payroll software and can be extended to cover other locations in the UK and overseas.

UK Time Solutions Managing Director - Chris Routledge said:

"We are used to demonstrating return on investment and cost benefit for our time and attendance systems, so it ist gratifying that the organisation which turns out some of the worlds leading economists recognised these features to.

Repairing antique kit with our blowpipe carrying engineer

Most of our work here at Blaydon Communications and UK Time Solutions involves modern mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, but every now and then we get a challenge.

It could be a venerable old valve amplifier, or an antique mechanical time clock kept as a curiosity, but kept working.

This is when Engineering Manager Rob Ritzema clears his bench and smiles, because Rob loves a challenge. In his spare time he has rebuilt a forward control 5 litre Land Rover 101, built crossbows and air rifles from scratch and designed then built a portable lathe for turning stair spindles.

So when a hundred year old antique time clock comes in for repair and parts are no longer available, Rob will set to manufacturing them.

And as you would expect, Robs tool kit is a little different. He is the only service engineer in the UK to carry a blowpipe. This is Robs own time and labour saving device for laying cables over roof voids. He gets to one end of the void and blows a dart attached to a nylon filament across to the other side, then pulls the cable through attached to the filament. Thus saving the time it takes to lift every other roof tile and pull the cable through in increments.

So, if our Engineering Manager turns up carrying a blow pipe, please don't be alarmed. It's just Rob being efficient.

Time for Biometrics

Providing the facts about biometric time and attendance systems to customers’ staff has become a priority for UK Time Solutions, the firm reports. Director Chris Routlege says: “Biometrics used to record time and attendance is a relatively new technology and many people don’t understand how it works. If you give someone a key, fob or swipe card, they understand the concept. Ask them to provide their fingerprint and all sorts of legitimate concerns arise regarding identity theft or their fingerprints falling into the wrong hands.

“We explain to our customers, often at boardroom level, that no actual fingerprints are stored on the system, the encrypted data is useless to any third party and that biometric data is never shared, but if this message is not transmitted accurately to staff, there can be unease in the ranks.

UK Time Solutions has produced a Biometrics Information Pack for customers’ staff which can be printed and handed out, posted on notice boards or disseminated electronically. Customers can choose a Flash movie to send to staff via email.

Chris Routledge adds: “When staff are in possession of the facts they adopt the technology happily, because it means they never have to worry about forgetting or losing their key, fob or swipe card. Moreover they are comforted by knowing the only people in the building or on-site are fully authorised and have undergone any health and safety briefing. We believe it is vital that people have the facts about biometric technology before they are asked to adopt it, and customer feedback indicates we are right in that assumption."
